WebVPN access:
Internet Explorer Browsers with ActiveX Enabled
When you connect to an upgraded WebVPN server, you will see a message indicating that you are about to install Whale client components. At the end of the installation your browser will restart and all open browser windows will close. Click OK to continue with the installation. This may take a few minutes. Please be patient. If you try to log out before the installation is complete, you will not be able to close your browser. You will need to access your task manager (Ctrl_Alt_Del and click Task Manager), return to the client component installation and allow it to restart your browser.
Once the browser has restarted and you have logged back in, your specific selections may cause this process to repeat as additional application-specific components install. For example, selecting Native Outlook will install another component. This in turn reboots the browser and asks you to log back in.
Note: To determine if your version of Internet Explorer has ActiveX enabled, go to the Tools drop-down menu and click Internet Options. Select the Security tab and click Custom Level. Scroll down to the ActiveX section. Your ActiveX settings should be set to Enable or Prompt if ActiveX is enabled for your browser.
Netscape, Mozilla, FireFox and IE (ActiveX disabled) Browsers
No action needed. Some functionality is limited.
Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Installation
All WebVPN client computers require Sun JRE installation. This allows your browser to perform certain functions required for the Whale components to work correctly. The JRE that is bundled with Internet Explorer is no longer supported so you must download and install the Sun version. Go to Sun's Java Software for Windows page and select one of the download options. If you get an error on the XPI download option, try the offline installation option. Follow the directions on the web site to download the software and verify your installation.
With your Internet Explorer browser open, go to the Tools drop-down menu and select Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. The installation should have added a Java (Sun) category called Use JRE 1.5.0_02. Make sure the box is checked.
